Powell says recovery is far from complete: ASX poised to open lower

24 Feb 2021 - Following mixed leads from US markets, the ASX looks set to open lower this morning. The US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell says recovery is ‘far from complete.’ He also reiterated that the central bank planned to keep up low interest rates and large-scale bond buying. The tech sell-off continues with the NASDAQ continuing to be hit. And Seven West Media (ASX:SWM) has signed a Letter of Intent to provide news content to Facebook.

Facebook news content block removed: ASX closes 0.9% higher

23 Feb 2021 - Social media giant Facebook has agreed to lift its ban on Australian news content. Rising commodity prices continued to be the stimulant for the energy and mining rally, with BHP (ASX:BHP) and Oil Search (ASX:OSH) all edging higher. Industrial property investment heavyweight Centuria Industrial REIT (ASX:CIP) has successfully snapped up a modern warehouse in the north-western Sydney suburb of Bella Vista.

Costa (ASX:CGC) shares rise on full year results: ASX tracking 0.2% higher at noon

22 Feb 2021 - The ASX dropped at the open but is now tracking 0.2% higher at noon, or 16 points higher at 6,810. On the futures market the SPI is 4 points higher. Shares in Costa Group Holdings (ASX:CGC) rose after reporting a full year statutory net profit of $60.8 million, from a loss of $36.1 million a year ago. Shares in Reliance World Wide (ASX:RWC) fell today despite reporting net profit after tax rising 82%.

Vaccine rollouts start today across the country: ASX poised to open lower

22 Feb 2021 - ASX is poised to open lower this morning, extending Friday’s retreat. Covid-19 vaccine rollouts begin across the country with the first shot of the Pfizer vaccine been administered on Victorian soil. Iron ore futures in Asia fell on Friday after a survey of post-Lunar New Year inventories of steel products in China showed a significant increase. BlueScope (ASX:BSL) today reported NPAT up 78 per cent.

Shares in Cochlear (ASX:COH) did well today as they report strong growth in the US, Japan, Korea and China. Shares in Treasury Wine Estates (ASX:TWE) fell today despite performing well on the market yesterday. Woodside (ASX:WPL) signs LNG supply deal with Germany’s RWE.
