Markets rally ahead of US CPI data

13 Sep 2022 - US equities were higher in uneventful Monday trading, ending just off best levels. S&P and Nasdaq both up for a fourth-straight day, extending last week's rally that broke three-straight weekly declines.The market was fairly quiet from a headline perspective, with focus tightly on tomorrow's August CPI report and expectations for a month on month headline decline.

Key week for US economic data as indexes produce strong weekly gains

12 Sep 2022 - US equities were higher in Friday trading, finishing just off best levels. Each of the major averages were up more than 2.5 per cent for the week and snapped a big three-week losing streak during which S&P lost nearly 8.5 per cent. This week, data wise we have the US Consumer price Index for August on Tuesday and the Producer Price Index a day later, along with US retail sales.

In China, a record drought crippled economic activity across the southwest, freezing international supply chains for automobiles, electronics and other goods that have been routinely disrupted over the past three years.

Coal the star performer as energy crisis worsens in Europe

06 Sep 2022 - European equity markets finished lower on Monday, but off to the worst levels. US equity futures higher with US markets closed for the Labour Day holiday today. The price of thermal coal rose to a new high recently with Newcastle futures trading above $US440 ($648) a tonne, more than doubling since the start of 2022.

Solar stocks shine amidst energy crisis gloom

05 Sep 2022 - US equities fell on Friday to cap their third straight weekly decline, after a solid August jobs report failed to ease fears that the Federal Reserve would keep aggressively hiking interest rates to fight inflation. The only bright sector was Solar Energy, with the sector performing strongly during August.

Biden Administration moves to ban chip sales into China

02 Sep 2022 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended the first day of September on a high note as traders looked forward to the jobs report tomorrow. Nvidia shares fell 7.7 per cent after the chipmaker said the US government is restricting some sales in China.
