Wall Street reverses gains approaching year end: ASX poised to open lower

30 Dec 2020 - The ASX looks set to open lower this morning as Wall Street reversed their earlier gains. European stocks extended their end-of-year rally high in anticipation of fresh stimulus and as their Covid-19 vaccination program got under way. Tech stocks in the US were mixed with Google and Apple shares down. Netflix on the other hand was up. Biotech company Immutep (ASX:IMM) has secured the US patent for Eftilagimod Alpha.

Beach Energy (ASX:BPT) shares fell after disappoiniting hydrocarbon results: ASX closed 0.5% higher

29 Dec 2020 - The ASX had a strong day today following on from Wall Street, boosted by the United States passing its long-awaited Covid-19 stimulus bill. The local sharemarket managed to close 36 points up or 0.5% higher at 6,700. Shares in Platinum Asset Management (ASX:PTM) fell as it was reported Joseph Lai resigned as head of its Asia strategy. Shares in Beach Energy (ASX:BPT) are down after they reported no significant hydrocarbon shows at Ironbank 1.

Strong start for post-Christmas trading: ASX tracking 0.6% higher

29 Dec 2020 - The ASX made a firm start to post-Christmas trading this morning, opening higher with the S&P/ASX 200 Index 41 points up or 0.6 per cent higher at 6,705. Futures are pointing to a rise of 41 points. Shares in Platinum Asset Management (ASX:PTM) fell as it was reported Joseph Lai resigned as head of its Asia strategy.

Merry Christmas from FNN: ASX closes 0.3% higher

24 Dec 2020 - The ASX rose at the open on a shortened day of trade to end 0.3% higher. All of the sectors ended higher except for healthcare and utilities. Shares in Credit Corp (ASX:CCP) are up over 19% after the company entered into an agreement to purchase $160 million book of debts from receivables management company, Collection House.

Materials the only sector to shed today: ASX closed 0.7% higher

23 Dec 2020 - The local sharemarket rose at the open and managed to close 44 points up or 0.7% higher at 6,643. Shares in Mesoblast (ASX:MSB) rallied today despite no new news from them. Materials only sector that shed today. Origin Energy (ASX:ORG) will invest an additional £36 million (approximately $65 million) in Octopus Energy Group

Imports of goods up 11% in November: ASX tracking 0.5% higher at noon

23 Dec 2020 - The ASX opened higher this morning with the S&P/ASX 200 Index 35 points up or 0.5% higher at 6,635. Shares in the Smart Group Corp (ASX:SIQ) are on the up today after reporting their operating EBITDA is expected to be approximately $47 million for the second half. Shares in Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS) are currently dropping. Materials is the only sector to make losses so far this morning.

Investors monitor new Covid strain in the UK: ASX set to open higher

23 Dec 2020 - Following mixed leads from US markets, the ASX looks set to open higher. Stocks recovered ground across Europe yesterday. New South Wales residents wait anxiously to hear from the Premier later today on social gathering restrictions for Christmas. The number of cases in the state has so far been tracking down from 30 to just 8 yesterday. Challenger (ASX:CGF) has entered into an agreement to acquire MyLifeMyFinance for $35 million.
