Suncorp cash earnings up 39%: ASX poised to open lower

09 Feb 2021 - The ASX looks set to open lower this morning despite a rally on Wall Street. Hopes rose as the coronavirus infection rates slowed in the US and more vaccines are rolled out. US stocks were higher for the sixth straight session. Bitcoin surged to an all-time high after Tesla invested $1.9b. Suncorp (ASX:SUN) has delivered a strong 1H21 result with cash earnings of $509m, up 39.5% versus the pcp.

Retail sales for December quarter rose 2.5%: ASX closed 3.4% higher for the week

05 Feb 2021 - It has been a positive day of trade for the Australian share market. After opening higher, it continued its momentum to close the week off strong. At the closing bell, the ASX closed 75 points or 1.1 per cent higher to 6841. Over the week, we closed 3.4 per cent higher or 233 points higher. Newscorp rallies on results: Aus shares 0.8% higher at noon

05 Feb 2021 - The Aussie market is tracking higher in the first two hours of trade. The ASX has gained 54 points or 0.8 per cent to 6819. The SPI is suggesting a rise of 53 points. All sectors are in the up today and across the week except utilities and materials are also slightly lower.

AGL Energy (ASX:AGL) sinks on $2.7 billion write down: Aus shares down 0.7% at noon

04 Feb 2021 - The Australian share market opened slightly lower and continued to sink in early trade after Australia’s trade surplus for December came in weaker than expected. All of the sectors are down except Communications which is only managing to hold gains by the narrowest of margins. AGL Energy (ASX:AGL) issued a $2.7 billion write down for the period ended 31 December 2020.
