Afterpay soars to record high: ASX ends 0.3% higher

14 Dec 2020 - The local sharemarket has started the week on a positive note despite weak leads from Wall Street. The S&P/ASX200 rose 18 points or 0.3 per cent to 6660. Wesfarmers shares have added 2.8 per cent today to hit a record high of $50.985. Afterpay shares rose 8.8 per cent to a record high of $109.93 amid optimism about its partnership and as the stock closes in on its entry into the ASX20.

Wall Street closes out a losing week: Aus shares to open flat

14 Dec 2020 - Australian shares are set to open flat after following a big week in which shares pushed higher by an iron ore surge but Wall Street see sawed. The S&P 500 fell on Friday, wrapping up a losing week, as the outlook for additional fiscal stimulus remains uncertain. Friday’s moves came as negotiations over a coronavirus relief deal dragged on.
