US markets closed: YTD figures are currently strong

21 Feb 2023 - Overnight, the US stock and bond markets were closed, on account of Presidents' Day. We thought we'd update you on where markets stand calendar year to date. YTD, the Nasdaq is the best performer out of the three major indexes, up 13.5%. This is then followed by the S&P 500, up 6.7%. The Dow is the worst perfomer, however is still up 2.1% year to date.

US markets were mixed as investors digest a rebound in interest rates

20 Feb 2023 - US stocks were mixed on Friday as stubbornly high inflation and a rebound in rates continued to weigh on investor sentiment. The recent strong economic/inflation data has pushed Treasury yields back up to a level that makes it very tough for the stock market to stay up at its current level – with a combination of higher yields and lower earnings estimates for 2023, it creates some more renewed headwinds for the stock markets

US stocks fall on PPI data, lithium deal affects ASX’s Sayona Mining

17 Feb 2023 - Stocks fell Thursday after another hot inflation report, and a decline in jobless claims, showed the economy is holding up amid the Federal Reserve’s rate hikes. The producer price index, an inflation indicator that tracks wholesale prices, rose 0.7% in January, topping a Dow Jones consensus forecast for a 0.4% increase.
