Fed looks to raise rates despite signs of cooling inflation

20 Jan 2023 - Stocks fell Thursday as investors grew increasingly concerned the Federal Reserve will keep raising rates despite signs of slowing inflation. Overall, overnight’s performance came after initial filings for unemployment insurance fell to their lowest level since late June last week, the Labor Department reported, signalling to investors that the labour market is resilient amid a slowing economy.

18 Jan 2023 - The stock market was divided Tuesday as investors struggled to keep building on early 2023 momentum and weighed the latest earnings results. About 7% of the S&P 500 earnings have reported earnings through Tuesday morning, according to FactSet. Of those companies 70% have beaten expectations.

European stocks benefit from the slowing price growth

17 Jan 2023 - Today's focus will be on the European markets, as the US was closed overnight due to the public holiday of Martin Luther King Day. European equity markets closed higher: the STOXX 600 closed 0.4% higher, the FTSE closed up by 0.2%, whilst the DAX and CAC added 0.3%.
