Investors divided after nonfarm payroll numbers

07 Nov 2022 - Stocks rallied on Friday, but finished the week lower, as investors drew conflicting conclusions about what the latest payroll numbers mean for future Federal Reserve rate hikes. October’s nonfarm payrolls report left investors divided, fueling some concern that the Fed will persist with its hiking campaign since the labour market added 261,000 jobs.

Energy sector remains the market’s safe haven

04 Nov 2022 - US equities finished lower in Thursday trading, with the S&P 500 bouncing off its lowest morning levels, but trading in a narrow range through the afternoon before fading into the close. Markets reverse course on Fed’s inflation narrative

03 Nov 2022 - Stocks fell on Wednesday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said inflation was still too high and therefore the central bank has further to go in raising interest rates. Markets struggled to interpret the central bank’s stance, with stocks jumping after the statement was released, then sinking after Powell warned in his press conference that rates would top out at a higher “terminal” level.
