Falling consumer demand hit retailers: Commodities soaring

17 Nov 2022 - Markets fell on Wednesday as investors weighed a gloomy holiday quarter update from Target that pressured retail stocks. Target blamed higher inflation and shifts in consumer spending for the drop in demand for everything from toys to home furnishings. In the background commodity prices are soaring as China lends support to their property market.

Retail earnings support market rally: US lithium stocks struggle across the globe

16 Nov 2022 - Elsewhere, retail stocks also lifted investor sentiment. Walmart shares jumped on a bumper third quarter. The retail giant said that sales were up nearly 9 percent from a year ago, as shoppers flocked to cheaper groceries and other items; shares advanced just over 6.5 per cent. Despite the market rally lithium companies were lower with Lithium America down 3.5 per cent, Albemarle 6.5 per cent lower and Livent falling 6.8 per cent.
